Playing and recording
How do I record pads into a beat?
Start the loop first
In Sequence mode, Start plays your pattern as a loop. The step lights under the buttons show where in the bar you are. Nothing is recorded yet; this is playback only.
Start needs at least one pad with a sound on it.
Record is its own off switch
With the loop running, press Record. Every pad you hit is added to the pattern at the bar and step where you played it.
Press Record again to stop recording. There is no separate button for it.
Playing without recording
With the loop running and Record off, anything you play is heard but not recorded. Use this to try a part against the beat, then press Record once you have it.
Stopping
Stop halts the loop. The pattern stays exactly as it is, and Start plays it again. Only Clear in the grid, or loading a different beat, replaces it. It is not saved until you save it as a beat.
One thing plays at a time
The sequencer and saved beats share one transport. Pressing Start stops a beat that is playing or looping, and playing a beat stops the sequencer. Pads you hit by hand are unaffected, so you can still play over a looping beat.
While a beat plays, the pattern screen shows that beat and runs a playhead across it, then goes back to what you were building when it stops. Nothing is loaded into the grid — Edit is still the only thing that replaces your pattern.
Playing in time
Quantize snaps recorded hits to the nearest step, and the metronome gives you a click to play to. Both are covered in Tempo, swing and bars.
